Commonwealth Games, Delhi 2010

Dr Elliott has been appointed Head of Medical Services for the Scottish Commonwealth Team, heading up a team of 6 Sports Medicine Physicians and 10 Sports Physiotherapists.  The Games are to be held in October 2010 and will show case the best athletes in numerous sports from swimming to athletics and rugby 7's.

A reconaissance trip in April 2009 confirmed the progress Delhi 2010 Organising Committee is making with sporting venues and the games village.  The first team camp was held at the start of January 2010 with over 170 athletes attending.  This was an ideal opportunity for the medical team to talk to the athletes about the Games and the preparations in terms of health and ability to compete in Delhi.  6 Sports Medicine Physicians and 10 Sports Physiotherapists are supporting the Team in Delhi and will get the opportunity to visit India with squads in preparation.

6 Nations Womens Rugby

Dr Elliott has been appointed Team Doctor for the 2010 Scottish Womens Rugby Team for the 2010 RBS 6 Nations.  With games in Edinburgh, Rome, Dublin and Cardiff, Scotland will be out to gain valuable experience in preparation for the Womens Rugby World Cup being held in England in August 2010. On form Scotland are joined by Sweden from the Championships, the surprise package who beat Italy and Spain to qualify.

Meetings and Conferences

  • 2nd World Congress on Spotrs Injury Prevention, Tromso, Norway.  June 2008.
  • This congress was attended by over 650 delegates worldwide, the majority of whom are Sports & Exercise Medicine Physicians.
  • Scottish Institute of Sport High Perfomance Conference, Peebles, November 2009 provided useful insight into the coaching and successes of British Canoeing as well as talent spotting in English Cricket.

Talks & Seminars

  • Dr Elliott talked in June 2009 to the Tayside Orthopaedic Department about Primary Care Orthopaedic Medicine provision in Tayside and his experiences in Kings Cross Hospital, Dundee
  • Local GPs have had 2 talks delivered by Dr Elliott on Sports Injuries in March 2009.  Over 50 GPs attended the meetings and updated their knowledge on common sporting injuries and the latest research in Sports Medicine.
  • Dr Elliott is to deliver a presentation to the local branch of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapists in March 2010 on his appointment as Vice-President of Tayside CSP.
