What is...


Dundee Sports Medicine Clinic aims to provide a service to help diagnose and treat you.  As a Sports & Exercise Medicine Physician, Dr Elliott will help you diagnose your condition and provide treatment.  This may involve referral to Surgical colleagues or Physiotherapy colleagues for specific cases.

You will always feel that the service provided is tailored to your needs with care and due attention maintained at all times.  Medical Confidentiality is paramount and we would encourage communication with other health care professionals such as your GP or Hospital based specialist.

 

Injuries commonly diagnosed, investigated and  treated include:
  • Knee ligament injuries (ACL, PCL, MCL)
  • Knee cartilage injuries ( meniscal tear )
  • Shoulder injuries (frozen shoulder, rotator cuff, impingement)
  • Low back pain (mechanical, disc herniation, nerve entrapment or sciatica)
  • Achilles tendonitis
  • Golfer's and Tennis elbow

Whether you have recently suffered an injury, suffer from chronic pain in a joint or muscle, suffer from a chronic disease or are looking to reduce the risk of injury through an injury prevention scheme, then the Dundee Sports Medicine Clinic is there for you. 

You may be an individual looking for support or  a sports club looking for medical expertise to help with the forthcoming season or recurrent injuries in players. 

 

Use the contact details for Dr Elliott who will endeavour to get back to you as quickly as possible.  Due to commitments with national squads and international competitions, there may be occasions when the clinic is not available.  This will be advertised on the website and alternative arrangements will be publicised.

 

Payment is by cheque or cash.  Consultation fees are available on request. These will vary according to the time spent on an individual case and the diagnostic and therapeutic systems used.  Private Medical Insurance companies have recognised Dr Niall Elliott as a Sports and Exercise Medicine Specialist and payments can be processed through your medical insurance company. 

 

Who is...

Dr Niall Elliott graduated from the University of Dundee in 1995. His training was based in Tayside as well as Lothian regions of Scotland. He spent several years in Australia where skills were developed and exposure to Sports Medicine commenced. Dr Niall Elliott has worked for numerous years in the field of Sports & Exercise Medicine.

  • Head of Medical Services, Scottish Commonwealth Team, Delhi 2010
  • Head of Sports Medicine for the Tayside and Fife Institute of Sport. Clinical care of elite athletes in the Tayside region with close links to the Scottish Institute of Sport.
  • Team Doctor for Scotland Womens Rugby Team 2010
  • Medical Officer for Team GB at the 2006 Winter Olympic Games in Turin
  • Medical Officer for Team GB at the European Youth Winter Olympic Games 2003 in Slovenia.
  • Club Doctor for the Dundee Tigers Ice Hockey Team 1999 - 2001
  • Club Doctor for the Dundee Texol Stars Ice Hockey Team until 2007
  • Chief Medical Officer for Ice Hockey UK, the governing body for Ice Hockey. 2002 - 2008

He works regularly with the Scottish Rugby Union as well as the Scottish Football Association. He has provided medical cover for The Dunhill Links Championships held in Tayside annually and is to provide medical cover for a variety of golf competitions in the UK.

Additional Sports & Exercise Medicine duties

  • Tutorials and educational meetings arranged in conjunction with BASEM Scotland and TFIS.
  • Review of material and medical support for Exercise Referral through the Wright Foundation
